Pre-Wedding Couples session - What is it?

Do we need a couple session?

Pre-wedding session/engagement session/couple session - they’re all the same thing! So, I like to think I’m an honest person, therefore i’ll start this post a little bit controversial by saying no, you don’t need one, but I really recommend them!

If you’ve clicked on this post because you are contemplating that very question then you already know there is most definitely many positives to having a pre-wedding session. The likely hood is you’re already engaged and have booked your photographer, or are looking for the perfect one for you. (hello! 🙋)

If you’re looking for a pretty laid back and relaxed photographer chances are you’re a little nervous, maybe anxious in front of the camera and don’t often jump at the chance at being in front of it, so the idea of a pre-wedding shoot may sound super scary to you but here’s a few reasons why I think you should have one and how they are so not scary!

Get to know your photographer better

For me, as a photographer this is a big one! Your photographer will probably be one of, if not the only supplier that spends so much time with you on your wedding day so the more you get to know them the more relaxed you will feel on the day. The last thing you want is to be stuck with someone for 10 hours that you don’t feel comfortable around. A pre-wedding shoot is a great time to chat with your photographer about anything and everything so use it as an opportunity to really get to know them. If you’re booking me I can guarantee there will either be a chat over tea and cake (or if i’m not driving cocktails will definitely be involved!)

Make your photographer your new BFFL

So as well as you getting to know me, I can get to know you as a couple better. It’s great for me as a photographer to see how you interact together, you may be a couple that loves a bit of PDA or prefer to just make each other belly laugh and pull silly faces (which there is most definitely nothing wrong with!), either way if your photographer knows this on your wedding day they’ll know what your preference is for photos and make you super relaxed. If you hate PDA then you don’t want to awkwardly stand there snogging your better half for 5 minutes feeling a little bit awkward. (full disclosure i’m definitely not the kind of photographer who will make you do that!)

Become a superstar poser!

Okay so fear not, I won’t be making you pose like you’re on the pages of OK magazine - I totally get that for most people professional photoshoots are rare and you may not have actually had any professional photos taken of the both of you. It’s also super common to feel awkward and uncomfortable at the thought of having a pre-wedding session but the good thing is that by having one before the wedding day itself you have the chance to get used to being in front of a camera and eliminate a lot of those photo related anxieties before the big day. Us photographers work in lots of different ways! I personally don’t really “pose” you, so a pre-wedding session with me is a good way to see how I work, what I do & what I say, to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.

Head down to Brighton Pier & have fun!

Ultimately use your engagement session as a fun day out together! You can do and go wherever you like, within reason, for your session so either have a lovely stroll around a beautiful park, doggos are always welcome. Head down Brighton beach & play at the arcades. Or do something more adventurous like playing mini golf or running around a field at dusk with smokebombs! If you follow me on Instagram then you 100% know how Disney crazy I am so if you want to go there for a shoot I’m totally up for that!

And if you don’t believe me this is what Chloe & Tom said!

Chloe was a no-brainer when it came to booking our engagement shoot! I've known for years I wanted Chloe to photograph my wedding photos, and having our engagement photos was such an amazing experience. We are two incredibly awkward people and she managed to put us at ease and make us so comfortable. It was like having a best friend around- I can't wait for her to be part of our big day in 2023!

Okay, we’re keen…

So you’re probably now thinking how much is a pre-wedding session and how do we go about booking one!
